Music's A Good Drug - Then There's The Alabama 3
They’re not from Alabama, there aren’t three of them and they describe themselves as ‘Sweetprettymuthafuckincountryacidhousemusic’ - something new to add to your vocabulary of ever changing music genres. The Alabama 3 break all known boundaries that music has to offer in order to create a night of pure fun.
The support set from a DJ was a bit of a letdown as the band could have booked another band, but then again it’s the Alabama 3 so of course they’re not going to do anything generic that fits your standards. Playing the likes of The Clash and anything else remotely something that most other DJ’s wouldn’t touch with a bargepole is a good thing, unless the secret is discovered that it was all played through Itunes.

How the Alabama 3 are still going is quite unbelievable. We caught up with them at Chagstock performing an unplugged set whilst Larry Love tore some of the festival goers a new one after people left to watch the sound check of Fun Loving Criminals. All the hits were played tonight, including my personal favourite (Hello… I’m Johnny Cash) whilst Larry was dancing around the stage, with The Reverend D Wayne Love looking like he was having the time of his life, and accompanied by Aurora Dawn, who had the habit of stealing the limelight and the hearts of many guys who were there. In the whole time this was happening the rest of the band played away with thick basslanes, synths and guitars all mashed up in one ball of sweet music.
The Alabama 3 are one of a kind (all seven of them), and a band you have to watch. Bollocks to the whole genre picking of “I love metal”,or “I love folk and country” or a lover of a genre you’ve never heard of before, then check out these guys. We would call them unique, but unique is a word that isn’t good enough to describe how big their sound is, let alone who they are.
Overall rating – 4/5
