The Scissor Sisters better start feeling like dancing - 5/5
This Leeds based Indie rock band British Daylights have just assaulted my eardrums on all levels and took no prisoners, with a sounding influence ranging from The Libertines to the relentlessness from the likes of The Clash- and now indie is back in business again.
First up, the tongue-in-cheek, fast paced indie number 'Notches on the Bedpost', with vocalist Rob Walker yelling "They're going out to town/ can't you dress up the girls are dressing down/ they're on their knees/ Well I'm not into that / Have you seen who I'm with" whilst being backed by the playful bass line by Josh Goodman, and the fellow guitarists Mikey Sibson and Joe Dines delivering the dancing, infectiously fun guitar groove rounding the piece up.
There's that, then "Out of Line", with the John Entwistle side emerging from Josh Goodman for The Who sounding song, which is still another rip roaring anthem to make you start dancing to jumping up and down with unknown hidden energy supplied by this band, with drummer Sam Kelly and Rob Walker stealing the limelight on this 60's soundalike song, with superb shouting and electric drumming, the infectious groove of the guitarists never leaving and never straying.
Looking at their soundcloud page, they're described as, "The new pretenders to the NME throne." To those who say that obviously can't tell the difference between processed indie sellouts to the real deal - which British Daylights are the real deal, and they do a damn good job of it too.
