Metal at its Best - 5/5
What is this creation? Well, it’s Blackpool post-hardcore quintet ‘Buried by the Sirens’ latest EP ‘Conflicts’. It’s just one of those things where the existence of the material can be questioned more than a Spanish Inquisition – “How can these guys make such a damn perfect EP?”. With clean vocals, progressive and relentless guitar riffs and solid drumming, this is something that will blow your eardrums without a care in the world.
Starting with “Intro” before ploughing through “Praying won’t part the Seas” with the guest Lewis Darlow, before the literal god-like proportions of “Structures”, showing ideas of vastly epic proportions and Matt Lawson giving one of the most fantastic vocal deliveries I’ve ever heard, with vicious riffing and Dom Rodriguez pummelling his drum kit out of existence. “The Messenger” is something that everyone will love, with influences of Asking Alexandria and The Ghost Inside pretty evident, with clean vocals and awesome growling to yet more fantastic guitar playing with Kyle Knight’s bass forming the tight rhythm bond of Dom’s insane drumming, before ending on a melodic clean part which is just beautiful. “Honour over Glory” still hammers through, with metalcore breakdowns over a fuzzy guitar riff and Matt showing some perfect screaming. This track is solid, the lyrics borderline perfect with the musicianship and technical elements are just impeccable, with a collaboration of backing vocals to more vicious breakdowns. The live scene better beware of this track, it’s going to destroy venues wherever it’s played at. It all comes to an end with their single “Conflicts”, which is just a track that steals the limelight from all the other tracks. The vocals are perfect, musicianship is as tight as always and just a ground breaking performance in general. This goes to show how unsigned bands should get more credit than the minimal amount most of them get.
To be honest, this is just a flawless EP. There are no faults to pick out and nothing that can be improved nor built upon. And hell, this is just six tracks. An album from these guys is guaranteed to be nothing short of amazing at this rate.
