Caught in a Loophole - 2/5
Deathcore. It’s a genre that’s probably more rejected then Djent is. It makes you want to cry whilst your ears bleed before maggots grow on your insides and tear their way out of your body. But that’s just one bit of imagery that will be changed by Burning Down Paris’ self- titled EP.
It opens up with the crushing ‘Ocean Depths’ with some phenomenal growls and screams before some powerful drumming, before merging with ‘Prometheus’. It may contain generic breakdowns but it’s still a powerful track with a tight rhythm section and some scary sounding guitar work. ‘Gears of the Apocalypse ’ ventures down the more conventional route of nearly consistent breakdowns, and by the time ‘Godless Mannequins’ finishes up the EP, it sounds as though the bands has given up on it completely.
Deathcore is a struggling genre – it takes a lot to set apart from most bands that sound identical with stupidly sized stretchers. But Burning Down Paris have fallen into the loophole just like many other bands have, and it sounds like a struggle to escape out of it…
