Recreate the Magic - 5/5
“Fel Fiasco are a five piece post-hardcore band from Exeter, England. Formed in the autumn of 2011, the band feature ex members of Depths and The Sunshine Getaway amongst others and are comprised completely of Devon based music students. With band influences such as Glassjaw, Thrice, Thursday, Proceed and The Mars Volta to aspire too. Fel Fiasco aim to take these influences and turn them on their head to create something captivating and unique." This is what's quoted on their Facebook biography. So, same old, same old. Another band who leech off other bands to make their sound - it isn't the first time I heard that before. But Fel Fiasco use those influences not as just something to leech on, but something to aspire to.
Something to makes "Recreate the Numbers" truly special...
First thing, it is the eerily creepy intro with the fabulous use of the guitars and the somewhat tribal drumming that increases to
the tension that's played with the bass from Coz, before it explodes to the guitar attack of Dan Chase and Abi Crisp. The standout for me is not just the lyrics provided in this beautiful piece of music, but Lianna Carnell's vocal delivery is one to definitely blow the listener away, well, it did for me anyway. She doesn't just give the one off high point and leave the rest of the song to its own demise as many other vocalists have done, but there is never a single highpoint - it lasts all the way through the pop'/post-hardcore five minutes and twenty seven seconds of the existence of the song.
They may be a small band right now. But once they have a strong and growing fan base, Fel Fiasco won't be a band you'd want to miss.
