The End is Nigh - 5/5
Delivering crushing riffs under the influence of Killswitch Engage and dropping clever metaphors throughout songs attacking religion, and you end up with Imminence – the five piece metal mob hailing from Sweden. And their three track EP ‘Born of Sirius’ shows absolutely no signs of the quintet slowing down.
‘The Deceiver’ kick starts the EP with Eddie Berg’s fantastic screaming vocals and guitarists Harald Barrett and Alex Arnoldsson crushing riffs over Peter Hanström’s manic drum skills, flowing through the neatly structured song blissfully whilst the lyrics convey the message of religion being nothing but lies. Quite. ‘The Harbringer’ is yet another character of the three devastating songs, with progressive riffs and Eddie being one of the best screamers in an unsigned band I’ve heard. The breakdowns are superb with a flawless rhythm section and a song that will tear you and a live scene to shatters. The quality isn’t surprising, considering that this band has shared stages with the likes of In Flames, Lamb of God and Marilyn Manson. ‘The Devourer’ ends the EP in style in yet another flawlessly executed fashion – stunning riffs, strong bass riffs from Fredrik Rosdahl, extremely powerful drumming and Eddie still taking charge with a superb vocal delivery.
This is a band not to miss, full stop. Their EP is a strong contender against many in the modern metal genre of today, full of gripping ideas and brilliant musicianship in what sounds like a loose concept. Be warned: this is just a taster of what’s to come. Even then I probably won’t know what to expect…
