Abra Cadabra - 4/5
Combine chunky riffs, powerful vocals with rather philosophical lyrics and a drummer who can quite easily match the standard of Dave Grohl’s, wave your magic wand and say ‘Abra Cadabra’ and in an instant you’ll have the Birmingham alternative rock trio That Cavalier Attitude. And with their self titled EP, the trio sound destined for big things.
‘Promises are Lies’ opens up to the Biffy Clyro influence of the band, yet That Cavalier Attitude construct the songs influence to make it their own, with singer/guitarist Chris Inston’s melodic vocals to Conor McElroy’s stunning drumming that definitely pulsates with energy in the EP’s highlight ‘Stars Fade’, with yet more philosophical lyrics while the band struggles to figure out whether it should be a hard rock song, a punk one or a grunge before giving up and involving all three. After believing that the EP possibly couldn’t get any better, ‘Run’ appears in its full anthemic glory. Containing sections that will blow your mind to minuscule particles before piecing them back together with slow haunting elements, before shattering what was made once more with Chris shouting ‘Time we run from a brand new start/ to a brand new end’. Classic.
This EP is just nothing but flawless throughout. Every sense of inspiration is crafted to become a wielded weapon of destruction that is guaranteed to make you not think twice about listening to this band, and saying “Damn, I did not see that coming”…
