Drifts in imagination... 2/5
Djent is a term that Metal has neglected, like one of those stains on your mothers favourite carpet – it has to be eradicated. Merging theuse of two step rhythms and deafening breakdowns, Taunton’s four piece TwoCoins for the Boatman self-titled single off of their new EP ‘Drifts in Time’ hopes to stand out from the rest. Sadly, it’s just another one of those stories…
The dark tone set from guitarist Carlos Collier, bassist Ben Stanford and drummer Luke Westlake don’t let down on the unrelenting and crushing form of the rhythm with vocalist Bradley Jones growling vocals, proudly giving the impression of opening a mosh pit with the capability of devouring the earth if the song is to be played live in front of a crowd who would be in more of a frenzy than a pack of piranhas having a snack. But that may deter listeners from the variety of the single. The song may be heavy, brutal and bring in another audience into the so called genre of ‘Djent’ but Two Coins for the Boatman have fallen into the trap of repeating themselves and not bringing in another force of variety into their allocated genre.
