Bob Dylan who can Sing - 4/5
Conjure an image in your head of Bob Dylan in your head, with playful lyrics and more charismatic vocals. That’s what sums ups Ali Ingle’s latest EP “The Man and the Monster”, and something that everyone can enjoy. And if you can’t enjoy something as fun loving as this, what have you been doing with your life?
It opens up with ‘Something about Jorj’ that is true to the roots of folk music .‘Jekyll and Hyde’ is an odd song, with repetitive one note piano notes and strings along with a guitar that tries to get attention in a song that tries its best to be something but isn’t. Although be thankful it’s a one-off, with the indie inspired ‘Baby Don’t Go’ with beautiful backing vocals. , whilst Ali contemplates on love – which is the subject on virtually every song. But take note: These songs of love are something special – not the same shit force fed down your ears on the radio ‘Came to the Morning’ is one of the more stripped down to the basics songs, along with the exquisite backing vocals provided by Kathryn Williams. ‘Tornado’ ends the EP by beginning with a Ukulele that sounds like it’s ttying to think of what to play, before it opens up like a summer flower – into something just purely fantastic. On top of that, there’s a video that involves space hoppers, which is bound to win some hearts over.
Ali Ingle is a talented musician without a doubt, and a cluster of ideas are just the foundation blocks to something much bigger. And that is somewhere where he’s destined to go.
