The 80's have come back to haunt us - 4/5
It's like a typical B lister plot out of a movie where a whole being or some menacing species of whom have long since died in a Steven King novel have being laying in a doormat stage ready to strike out upon the disturbance of its burial grounds. And in come Brighton/West Sussex-ish band Beggarz Fixx, or "BEGGARZ FUCKIN FIXX" as their Facebook band page likes to be
referred to as. The EP however, does not reflect the 80's though - where all bands were cardboard cut-outs of each other and attempting to decimate the guitar by playing at the speed of light, if not faster. The album begins with 'Cross Road', an influenced but not stereotypical 80's starting point with a nice acoustic piece before the drum machinery of Billy-Joe takes place like a drummer of AC/DC on steroids and the overdriven bluesy riff given by Lead guitarist Mike with the assistance of Adam the bassist. "Sold my Soul" is the 'I sold my soul to the devil of Rock 'n' Roll' attitude, and the lyrics. But it starts as a rather lovable rally point to get into full swing of the album, maybe due to a cowbell being introduced to a Slash styled solo being played with a spice of originality. The same principal applies to all the tracks overall, but even so this isn't exactly "80s, 80s and more 80s" as the tracks are all original, and not - thankfully - mere copy of others, which I love the idea of that as well as the creation of this EP overall. The most original and arguably the best track I believe has to be "Gimme Some" with Charlie providing the casual confidence of Glam Rock vocals accompanied by the whole band in general, there is no competition between band members is what it seems, only just to have a good time.
Beggarz Fixx does just that, providing the listener with a good time.
