Slow Down Please? - 5/5
Four tracks is plenty, but when they’re as kick ass on “Money can’t save you now” – by rising Metallers “Beyond Betrayal” – just clocking up to roughly three and a half minutes per track is not enough. With soaring breakdowns, technical guitar ability and the sheer brute force of their sound being likened to “I killed the Prom Queen” and “Bring Me the Horizon”, this is seriously one band not to mess with.
“November” just has Jake Newton’s drums firing away at such a barbaric speed it’s actually quite unbelievable. Combine that with the guitar playing of Scott Shields and Tom Fisher give the track a life of its own, and it doesn’t stop there. Vincent Dickinson just blows me away on how loud he can scream and how low he can growl, buzzing with energy throughout the track. “Scott’s got a Time Machine” is one heavily inspired by BMTH with its strange introduction. Regardless of which, energy just keeps pulsating though the whole band. In comparison to the last track, Arron Twinney’s bass cuts through with filthily raw aggression. Throw all this into a mixing pot and you get one hell of a breakdown designed to tear live venues limb from bloodied limb. “What lies inside” deals with manic double bass pedalling from Jake whilst Scott and Tom experiment with the technical proficiency of “I killed the prom queen”. Vincent himself doesn’t take a break; he just punishes the absolute living fuck out of the track with death-defying vocals, before entering the outro of an amazing
breakdown. And do they stop? Well, no. With the title track “Money can’t save you now” roars into life with soaring guitar work and a tight rhythm section.
With very little time listening to the 13 minute existence on the EP, it’s safe to say that my ear drums now need to recover after being hammered away by a band who have way too much energy. Is it a bad thing? No, but it will be if you see them live and get caught up in a raging moshpit…
