Flying high - 4/5
Local rising band Cloutsham, based in Williton, have been known to sweep away headline acts in Somerset, and have now come to claim the Limelight of their new Release of 'Callous kind'. It is what I can describe as an odd journey, as the first track thunders away with 'Good Ol' Daze'. You would expect them to keep that level of pace up, before Charley Wicking pulls off an astonishing enchanting melodic riff for 'Waiting room', a personal highlight for me. Latter tracks emerge from their previous EP with the lovely A.M.Y to the tense 'Answers', with vocalist/Rhythm guitarist Steve Johnson giving a thrilling performance. 'In Dreams' sounds something Pink Floyd could deliver, yet from what I hear these guys do it better in the long run. Not forgetting bassist James Parker and drummer Mike Stevens, who have melted into the background to make the album flow re-emerge to stand out on 'Awkward Silence'. Unfortunately from my perspective of things, the last track 'Looks aren't everything' sounds rather weak and one of those endings on an album that you think would have been better taken off, which is a real shame regarding the high level of work put in by the band. I wish them the best of luck for the future, as I'm sure from what I've heard will stay at the same high standard of what I have heard.
