Don't Judge a Book by its Cover - 4/5
Emerging from the dark depths of Cornwall, the four piece hard rock band ‘Credicide’ have produced a mini album which has a nice swirling concoction of influences ranging from the likes of Fear Factory, Pantera, Avenged Sevenfold and My Chemical Romance with blistering guitar work, searing vocals and menacing drum work. This is one band you do need to look out for.
Opening with a menacing spoken intro of “CE10091” with a typical Iron Maiden horror influenced sound that easily gives you the goose bumps, Credicide rip into the rip roaring powerhouse of “Chemical Energy” ,introducing some mammoth guitar riffs and add a war machine for drummer and you have yourself a song of epic proportions. Likewise, on “Truth and Treachery”, Credicide pull off a riff similar to one to Tony Iommi would write, with vocals strongly reflecting those of My Chemical Romance, which could easily tear down a live venue with a crowd who’s mad enough to do so. As you get further into the album, there’s a break with “Gary 1.0” which calms down the atmosphere with a soulful piano part, which at the same time gives the atmosphere of something menacing and spooky is approaching faster than an out of control train, with industrial styled drums taking form. “Gary 2.0” turns out to be the out of control train, with the guitar work pulled directly out of Riff Rock 101, which features a groovy bass line and drums. Bag a solo of grand proportions, and you’re onto something, along with the fanatical double bass work. The only thing that pulls this mini album down though is the track “Me”, which is one those tracks that wannabe-wannabes would look up to and lap it up as a dog would lap up a bowl of water when thirsty. With that aside, “CDC” put things back on track, giving an odd styled rap rock performance with an all guns blazing approach to finish off the album.
With the exception of the one filler track, this mini album can definitely end up being a success if the cards are played right. With a mixture of old school sounds and a musical formula for sheer kick-assery, this is a band that will appeal to fans old and new alike.
