Dub-Metal? - 3/5
With a debut EP that promises to blow your mind with shredding, guitar melodies and breakdowns, Russian metalcore based band “Describe Me An Ocean” sound like a real eye opening band who promise to do some damage, along with the electronic synths chucked in to create something that I can only call dub-metal. But is it really that much of a mess?
Well, the combination of the two guitarists Alex Moskalev and Alexander Kuznetsov say no, as they operate like an army, backed up by bassist Evgeny Kuzmin and drummer Sasha Saraykov who doesn’t hold back and lets rip on all the drum parts with perfect precision. All goes well, until the synth kicks in on the self-titled opening track’s chorus on “Blame as a Habit”, which sound like they were just some bootlegged Asking Alexandria parts and randomly thrown in. But don’t dismay, along with an insane cover of Katy Perry’s “E.T” and the true metalcore roots of Alex Sal from the blood curdling growls and the pop like clean vocals. As a metalcore band, “Describe Me An Ocean” would have thrived in untold glory when heard, but while expanding with the use of the synths the band may have to work a bit harder to make the EP a more cohesive piece.
