I Call it Pretty Kickass - 4/5
I love Exeter, I should really just move there and settle there as most bands who get in contact with me come from that area and I personally LOVE THEM! I don’t think that can be any clearer. Dirty Magic are one of those bands, and after a rocky patch of getting a solid line up together, they’ve embarked on a mission to “start gigging again with ferocious resolve. You can rest assured that Dirty Magic are once again ready to GET DIRTY!!!”
Their six track EP “Call it What you Will”, but each track manages to deal a good solid load of metal from the Iron Maiden twin guitar duelling attack from guitarists Darren Bagwell and Nathan North on ‘Prologue’ to the vocals courtesy of vocalist Lewis Cobb who generally sounds like he has shards of glass lodged in his throat. Now, that’s not to be said in an entirely offensive manner as the dirty growls prove effective for the metal quintet, and the general bits of double bass work thrown in by Matt Andrews to add to the distinct heaviness of tracks – even from the acoustic ‘Faith Cage’ that then flips into a barrage of metal madness before returning to the acoustic driven riff.
The songs themselves may not exactly contribute anything new to the music scene, but dirty by name and dirty by nature, Dirty Magic have secured a solid piece of ground to show that this is one way to make a kick ass EP.
