Too Much Too Soon? - 3/5
Demo EPs are great – they’re usually a taster of what’s to come, and if executed correctly then it can be just as effective. The Tacoma, WA four piece “Fallen Traitors” have recently released their demo EP for free on their face book page and asked me to give it a listen. The ideas are great, just a bit of a shame about the quality…
“Sand Trap” is the most explosive and dynamic off the three tracks, showing a little change around of the band with drummer Gabe Valdez taking up frontman duties while main man and guitarist Darius Heath sticks to the fret board with brilliant results, showing some fantastic musicianship. "Kelly” then happens to take a turn for the worse, with Darius back on lead vocals and Gabe setting the pace of the song with the tight bass playing of Julian Line and Zack Smith on rhythm guitar, as the quality darkens through the powerful and somewhat twisted verses. “My Own Inner Warfare” suddenly lightens up the outcome of this EP, with it being a rough sounding anthem-in-the-making, guaranteed for use on the live scene, with Darius’growling vocals and superb guitar playing with Gabe’s clean vocals working in perfect harmony.
Overall it does what it says on the tin. It’s a rough demo EP with ideas that are brilliant and some that aren’t (Kelly), but if the right studio is found then this could be the foundations of something quite truly epic to happen.
