Toto, I Don't Think We're in Kansas Anymore - 3/5
Creating a concoction of weird synth based track and happy sounding mellow acoustic tracks with the factor of eleven out of ten on the chill factor, Kansas based solo musician Joshua Hunt has released his own self-produced EP “Transitions”. With a proud boast of playing everything on the EP himself, does it really live up to the hype that surrounds it?
First of all, I have to dismiss the first track on the EP, with stupid sounding synths that make the track sound into a cheesy version of what ‘Bass hunter’ has probably rotted away to. With that criticism aside, the rest of the tracks on the EP introduce the feel that is reminiscent to an old Bob Dylan album, that provide some amazing lyrics, with the best cropping up on the second track ‘Wisdom’ that continues until the track ‘Ignorance’ that bring some of the greatly introduced ideas tumbling down, only to be saved by the fast paced indie-folk track of “Guilt”. Just be warned, there are some filler tracks on this rather short EP, but there are some glistening gems embedded in it just waiting to be discovered.
