Acoustic Glory Yet Again - 5/5
Acoustic music now is what made Mumford and Sons convert city boys into village lads, and Ed Sheeran makes chavs believe that they are indie. Ignoring famous acoustic acts, they’re also quite popular on a local level also, for example take Mixtape Saints fantastic four track EP “Smoke, Mirrors and Misery”, which proves that just one person can create a difference.
From the beginning track of the emotional “Gone” that shows the beauty of two voices, of both Sam Moloney and female vocals behind it with intriguing poetic lyrics, to the folk-punk track of “Smoke, Mirrors and Misery”, which incorporates drums and electric guitar that provide a feel good factor over yet another thrilling vocal performance and yet again displaying powerful lyrics that Bob Dylan wouldn’t have been able to conjure up in his time of acoustic protesting. After that roller coaster ride, things slow down onto “On the Kindness of Strangers” before the anthemic part of “Lights of Signs”, where Sam shouts the ever-so-powerful “Because I have a secret to breathe”, giving the impression that he still has a political message to carry on. Four tracks is too short for that particular message of absolutely fantastic tracks, but if an album is to be released then we can definitely expect something huge to happen, and a message that very few are likely to forget.
