Standard but not Standard - 3/5
“Neversail” from Florida are a humorous band from what I hear, from their toungue in cheek lyrics and the pop-punk of Blink 182 and Sum 41 being an obvious influence in their single “Eleven Seconds” for their upcoming EP “Karma EP”. After being asked for a review, I thought I should check it out.
It opens with a heartbeat, so a love song. Austin Sanchez and Keegan Owens get the track going with the easy palm muting that’s heard in nearly every Blink 182 song. But combining that with Sean Eccles’ drumming makes it a formidable track, allowing a tight rhythm section. This is a fairly straight forward track, with vocalist Raphael Llana chanting “I couldn’t love you, even if I tried”. I’m not too sure whether this is a serious reference, or just me imagining it being said to one of the many posers on Facebook in this current age.
So, what is it that makes Neversail a likeable band? They follow convention which is never a good thing and sing love songs that are cheesier than an Austin Powers movie. But they have a charisma about the tracks, something that everyone can link to and perfectly like. Now this is just a track and I can’t wait for the EP.
